Today, SMPS are widely used, due to their cost-, space- and energy efficient properties. They are used for a large variety of applications, with largely ranging requirements. Unfortunately, it is impossible to use a general approach for designing a SMPS. It depends very much on the particular set of requirements which circuit topologies and control algorithms are most suitable.

In a series of 4 lectures an overview will be given of the currently most used techniques, and how these can be optimally applied. At the end of the day, time is scheduled to do some simulations, intended to reinforce the preceding lecture topics.
